After several heat-related deaths in the Phoenix metro area, Prescott Valley Police officials are taking steps to protect their K-9 officers. While the Tri-city area’s temperature is not as high as the metro area, it can still reach more than 100 degrees. That heat can translate into more than 150 degrees inside an officer’s patrol car, presenting a severe threat to his K-9 partner. To give human officers better control over the in-car environment, the Prescott Valley Police Department’s K-9 units are now outfitted with the new “Hot and Pop” climate control system by Ace K-9.The unit is a combination of a heat alarm and door popper in one. The unit will automatically lower the car’s rear windows, turn on fans, sirens, light bars, the air conditioning and page the human officer if the temperature exceeds a preset level.
